UPDATED 2:55PM: Fixing the Senate: Looks like we'll have to keep fighting a little longer

A new Senate convenes today and we think the first order of business should be to fix this:

But Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid will delay bringing up the issue of rules reform until later in the month as he begins negotiations with Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.  Reid can do this and still use the constitutional option (allowing reform to pass with 51 votes) by recessing the Senate after it convenes instead of adjourning it, thereby extending the first legislative day.  As the Fix The Senate Now coalition notes in a statement today:
The decision by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) to enter into direct talks with Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) on curbing the abuse of the filibuster shows the growing strength of the movement for real reform of Senate rules.
And we can put the time to good use by redoubling our efforts for real reform.

Call your senators now at  1-888-717-0911 and tell them to support real Senate rules reform.  For more information go to www.fixthesenatenow.org
