Haynes Nomination Gets Tortured Response From Military Officials

According to an article in today's Washington Post, high-ranking retired military officers expressed opposition to William Haynes's controversial nomination to the Fourth Circuit. The article reports that one former senior Navy lawyer commented that Haynes's "unwillingness to listen to others caused him to preside over the DOD legal system during the time of its greatest debacle in memory, the abuse of detainees by military personnel around the world." Another ex-official questioned Haynes's independence and judgment. This all comes as right-wing activists at the Committee for Justice have begun to attack Republican Senator Lindsay Graham (SC) because of what they believe to be Graham's opposition to the Haynes nomination. For his part, Senator Graham, a former military lawyer himself, denies formally blocking a vote on Haynes.
