Farewell to the Not-So-Fab Four

The Associated Press is reporting that four controversial appeals court nominees have asked the White House to withdraw their names from consideration: William Haynes, William Myers, Terrence Boyle, and Michael Wallace (Wallace had announced last month that he wished his nomination to be withdrawn). All four failed to be confirmed in the last Congress and, facing unified opposition by progressive organizations (along with largely tepid or nonexistent support from mainstream Republicans), stood little chance of being confirmed in the next one. Alliance for Justice President Nan Aron said that the withdrawal of these nominations “underscores the reality that the Senate will no longer rubberstamp far-right judges to lifetime appointments.”
