On Thursday, March 19, Harvard Law School Dean Elena Kagan was confirmed as the nation's first female solicitor general of the United States. Kagan, confirmed on a 61-31 vote, once clerked for Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall and taught with President Obama at the University of Chicago Law School during the 1990s.
